Segmented Bowls

Handmade Wooden Segmented WoodturningsSegmented or Polychromatic bowls or turnings are made from pieces of wood that are glued together into a block and then turned on a lathe. Some take weeks or even months to create. The work is tedious and precise. A bowl with 48 segments in the ring that has a .001" (one thousandths of an inch) error on the angle will result in a .096" error on the last segment glued in. Two angles per piece 2X48 = 96. In comparison 1/8' is .125" so a .096 gap between the pieces would be huge.
